Swim Goggles

Swim goggles should compulsorily be a form of your swimming costume. For swim goggles do not only improve swimming performance by increasing vision, they also protect your eyes from a number of things. First of all, swim goggles protect your eyes from chlorine and any other additives in the water. Prolonged exposure to both chlorine and salt cause itchy, irritated eyes and chlorine may even cause temporary blindness. Apart from that, you never know what other infection causing organisms and salts may be present in the water you are swimming in. So it is high time that you bought a swim goggle if you already don’t have one. Buy one for the kids too since they are more prone to exposure and most companies carry a good range of baby and kid swim goggles. If you don’t want to increase the number of your swimming accessories, then you could buy a swim goggles cap.

Goggles with ultra violet protection should be used when swimming outdoors. UV protection swim goggles prevent both UVA and UVB rays from harming your eyes. Your goggles may also be tinted in order to prevent glare from hampering your performance. The seal is the most important factor that determines a swim goggles’ performance. When choosing a swimming goggle, make sure that the goggle fits on the bones around your eye socket and not inside your socket. Swim goggles have two types of seals. They are either suction sealed or pressure sealed. While suction sealed goggles are quite popular, pressure sealed swim goggles provide better fitting and comfort than the former. Barracuda is one company that makes one of the best positive pressure swim goggles in the market today. The "Positive Pressure Seal" is a sponge-like material to help prevent too much pressure, and won't stick to your face. Speedo and Nike swim goggles are also well equipped and conform to the latest technologies. Many wholesale swim goggle shops stock and retail goggles from these companies.

For people who suffer from myopia or hypermetropia, prescription swimming goggles are the perfect option. Your swim goggles can be fitted with prescription lenses so that you can see clearly even while swimming. While all swim goggle companies do not offer you this option, most of the best companies carry optical swim goggles. There are two types of prescription swim goggles—step diopters and custom made prescription goggles. The step diopters are pre made prescription goggles that come with the same spherical power in both eyes. These goggles do not cater to the cylindrical power in your prescription and are available only till -8 power. Custom made prescription goggles are advised for people who have a high degree of astigmatism or have different powers in different eyes. People with more than -8 power will also need to get custom swim goggles made.

Good quality swim goggles come with fog and scratch resistant coatings and should be cleaned only with fresh water or a mild baby shampoo after use.
