Schwinn
Founded in 1895, Schwinn has been an iconic brand, having given us some of the most popular bikes of all times like the Schwinn Sting Ray, the Phantom, the Aerocycle and the Schwinn Sports Tourer. Schwinn bikes have defined generations and have become cultural symbols like the Beatles or Elvis Presley! Schwinn bicycles are one of the most popular cycles even today and the company continues to bring out innovative models.
Apart from the bicycle market, the company has also captured a significant portion of the health and fitness equipment market and manufactures popular treadmills, ellipticals and stationary bikes. Schwinn exercise bikes include both upright as well as recumbent exercise bikes. While the Schwinn Airdyne and the Schwinn 113 are popular among upright bikes, the Schwinn 213 and Schwinn 226 are among the market leaders in recumbent exercise bikes. Schwinn exercise bikes come with all the required features and compare well with Nautilus and Life Fitness models and the best part is that they are available at almost one fourth of the cost of these high end brands. The Schwinn 113 and 213 have a 300-pound weight capacity, 16 resistance levels and 10 programs. They are also equipped with a hand-grip heart-rate sensor. However the warranty on Schwinn bikes is much shorter. They carry a warranty of only 10 years on the frame, 1 year on mechanical and electronic parts, and only 6 months on wear items.
Schwinn is also involved in the production of elliptical trainers. The company presently makes only two models—the Schwinn 418 and the Schwinn 428P. Among these, the 418 has been dubbed as a best buy in Consumer Report. The Schwinn 418 elliptical trainer is manufactures by Nautilus, and carries the Nautilus quality and durability. On top of that, it is moderately priced at around $1000 only, which is cheap for the features and the performance that the product gives. The elliptical comes with an articulating footplate which is equipped with an 18” stride. There are 12 workout programs ranging from plateau and ramp to mountain and valley. It has two heart rates, one fitness test and one manual mode. The display provides information about time, speed, distance, RPM's, resistance level, calories, calories per hour, load, heart rate and course profile thus making it easy to monitor the workout in order to achieve the desired results. The machine carries a fifteen year frame, two year parts, one year electronic and a six month warranty on labor and wear parts.
