Recumbent Bikes

Introduction

The word recumbent indicates seated position. Recumbent exercise bikes have two wheels. Some of them have three. Usually, they work when you pedal with your legs; however, there are some that are powered by hands. Some of the bikes are both foot and hand powered.

Comfort Level

Comfort is high with a recumbent exercise bike. In fact, this is one of the major benefits of recumbent bikes. The seats are spacious and you can actually sit on it and not perch on a saddle like in ordinary bikes. The handlebars are placed either below the seat in such a way that your arms can hang down naturally, or above the seat at the level of your shoulder. This position eradicates the problem of wrist pain, saddle sore, and neck strain from long distance riding.

Riding Experience

You may take some time to get habitual in handling Schwinn recumbent exercise bikes. Some of the bikes are quite fast, giving a jittery feel, while some give a stable and smooth riding experience. One important thing: Cybex recumbent bike uses different muscles of your body. Therefore, even if you happen to be a fit upright rider, you will find it hard to climb hills until you work out those muscles. Taking recumbent bike reviews help.

It’s A Myth That You Can’t Climb Hills

Some people are of the view that, as these recumbent bike plans do not allow standing on the pedals, you can't climb hills on them. It’s true that recumbent bikes are slower going up the hills, but if you keep pedaling, the recumbent bike keeps moving. It depends on the steepness of the hill. You may need a low gear and a good stamina that allows you to pedal constantly.

Recumbents ARE Faster

You may not believe it, but the IHPVA sanctioned events saw nearly all land speed records broken by recumbent or semi-recumbent models. If you ask, “how fast will I be on a recumbent bike?”, then you won’t get a definite “yes” or “no” for an answer. This is because there are several factors playing a role in the fastness. The time period you have been riding the bike, the amount of training you have got on such bike, the weight and design of bike, and the topography of the area where you wish to ride the bike such as a hill, plain, or undulated area – they all matter.

The major speed limiting factor is aerodynamic drag. So, if you desire greater speed, go for a full body or well-designed fairing model. They are real fast.
